Description
Description
This original drawing on paper by Haitian artist Alix Roy depicts a traditional gingerbread-style house animated by scenes of childhood and everyday life. The composition centers on a brightly colored architectural façade, with green shutters and a corrugated roof, framed by trees and decorative elements that evoke the charm of Haitian residential design. Children populate the foreground, engaged in playful and quiet activities, including flying kites and sitting along the veranda. A line of multicolored kites stretches across the front of the house, introducing rhythm and movement while reinforcing themes of innocence, leisure, and community. The presence of the house, rendered with clarity and symmetry, anchors the composition and reflects the enduring cultural significance of Haitian gingerbread architecture. Roy’s approach is defined by simplified forms, clear outlines, and a balanced use of color that enhances both narrative readability and decorative appeal. The work aligns with the tradition of Haitian naïve painting and drawing, where scenes of daily life are depicted with directness, warmth, and cultural authenticity. This piece offers strong appeal to collectors interested in Haitian architecture, folk traditions, and genre scenes, combining visual charm with cultural resonance. Provenance includes Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery, and a certificate of authenticity will be issued.
