Collection: Lafortune Felix (Haitian, 1933-2016)

Félix Lafortune (1933–Dec 2016) was a Haitian painter born in Pont-Sondé, Haiti, who later lived and worked in Saint-Marc. Before devoting himself to painting, he was both a farmer and a Vodou priest, experiences that deeply shaped the spiritual vision of his art. His early wall paintings, created to decorate his temple, drew the attention of Pierre Monosiet, the late curator of the Musée d’Art Haïtien at the Collège Saint-Pierre. Encouraged by this recognition, Lafortune began painting on masonite in 1972 and developed a body of work rooted in supernatural imagery, symbolism, and Haitian spiritual tradition. Today, Félix Lafortune’s paintings are appreciated by collectors for their originality, cultural depth, and strong connection to Haiti’s sacred and mystical visual heritage.
