Micius Stéphane (1912–1996) was a Haitian painter associated with the Centre d’Art and recognized for finely detailed scenes of everyday Haitian life. Born in Bainet, he began painting in 1946 after meeting DeWitt Peters, transitioning from his early work as a cobbler to a full-time artist. A leading figure of Haitian naïve painting, Stéphane’s work is distinguished by precise composition, narrative richness, and careful observation of rural traditions.
