Description

Jean Adrien Seide captures a quiet moment along Haiti's coastline in this original painting. Tall coconut palms and dense green foliage frame the shore, where figures in bright clothing wander the sand beneath layered blue mountains. In the bay, a lone sailboat and a scattering of smaller craft drift across calm water, while soft clouds gather over the hills in the distance. The composition builds real depth, from the shaded foreground trees to the sunlit beach and the receding mountain ridges beyond, capturing the unhurried rhythm of daily life by the water. The painting is in good condition, consistent with its age. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity.

About this artist

Self-taught Haitian artist Jean-Adrien Seide was born in Cayes on November 18, 1956. He moved to Venezuela when his father passed away. He paints highly structured landscapes, with a series of fields spreading out towards a distant horizon.

Jean Adrien Seide's themes derive from the River of Artibonite, the mountains of Jacmel, and the cascades from the famous Saut Mathurin or Peligre in Haiti. At first glance, his paintings look representational, but a more detailed examination leads to a fascination, and the fantastic element predominates over the immediate reality.

His art has been shown in several countries, including the United States, Venezuela, Spain, Salvador, Canada, Haiti, and France. Seide is well-known among art collectors all around the globe, who like his simple landscapes.

"Horizontal lines evoking fields cross the vertical lines of trees to create a coherent landscape." (Peintres Haitiens by Gérald Alexis)
