Johnny Valbrun II, also known simply as Valbrun II, was the son of the late master Haitian painter Jacques Valbrun and the brother of artist Reginald Valbrun. Carrying forward the Valbrun family’s important artistic legacy, he became recognized for his distinctive abstract surrealist style, marked by expressive forms, layered symbolism, and vibrant compositions rooted in Haitian visual culture. Beyond his own artistic practice, Valbrun II was also respected as a mentor who encouraged and guided emerging Haitian artists throughout his career. His paintings entered galleries and private collections internationally, reflecting the growing appreciation for contemporary Haitian art abroad. Johnny Valbrun II passed away in 2005, leaving behind a meaningful contribution to the evolution of modern Haitian painting.
