Description
Description
A striking original by Guyodo, the Port-au-Prince artist Frantz Jacques, painted around 2000. His Vodou-inspired spirit figures draw on the visual language of the Grand Rue. A luminous green and yellow figure stands frontally against a dark, textured ground. Its red-rimmed eyes are set with small applied discs, and a tiny red spirit figure glows at its chest. Blue and red emissaries radiate from the upper corners, and a textured dark red patch anchors the center of the composition. The surface is built up with visible brushwork and the grain of the board itself, giving the piece a raw, ceremonial presence.
Signed "Guyodo" in blue at lower right, with the final letter running to the edge of the board. Condition is good, consistent with its age. The paint surface is stable, with no cracking, flaking, or restoration visible, and the applied eye discs and center patch are intact and secure. There is light handling wear to the corners and small paint losses along the bottom edge, where the plywood layers show. The reverse is bare board with original studio paint splashes and a hanging wire. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity.
